Windows 7: Removing Uninstallable Programs

Why?

Some programs just refuse to uninstall or uninstall cleanly. They fail on uninstallation or their entry remains in the Programs and Features dialog even after a successful uninstallation. The best solution in this case might be to remove the program’s entry from the Uninstall dialog and delete its remaining files.

How?

MyUninstaller, written by Nirsoft, is an excellent tool for this purpose. Execute MyUninstaller and choose the program whose uninstallation is not working.

  • To see the program’s installation directory, right-click and choose Open Installation Folder. It is a good idea to delete this directory and its contents.
  • To remove the entry, right-click and choose Delete Selected Entries. This removes the program’s entry from the Registry and it will no longer appear in the dialog.
